Actress Maria Doyle Kennedy was born in Dublin – before moving with her family to Enniscorthy and then finally settling in Bray. She took to singing early on in life and soon began fronting bands, including an early incarnation of the Hothouse Flowers, whom she left in the mid-1980s, prior to the band recording their first album. She then formed The Black Velvet Band. Doyle Kennedy made her film debut in Alan Parker’s “The Commitments” (1991) followed by more film and TV roles including “Dickens’ and the UK series “Queer as Folk”.
Maria has released three albums, “Charm” (2001) and
“Skullcover” (2004) as well as her recent highly acclaimed third album “Mütter”(2007). |
