Harp and Singing Recital
Saturday 12st June, 8.00pm, Church of the Holy Rude. Admission £12 / £10
Caitríona Ní Cheannabhain

Caitriona comes from Carna in the Conamara Gaeltacht in Co. Galway. She and her extended family are regarded as the exemplary exponents of sean-nos singing. Her father Michael Ghabha was an icon of sean-nos singing for a great many decades. Sean-nos is the oldest and most distinctive form of Irish traditional music. The sean-nos(meaning old-way) tradition stems from the extreme west of Ireland, where the last vestiges of the Irish language (spoken as a living language) still clings to a precarious and increasingly threatened existence. Caitriona sings with great emotion and passion from an innate pride of place and family heritage.
