55 years is a very long time for a ceili band to stay together
and the reason the Tulla Céilí Band has achieved
this is because they play great music.
Dancers love the Tulla and reckon that they produce a lift
with their music that moves the dancers effortlessly. Their
rhythm is purely traditional, steady and reliable and has
been said to have a built in swing that inspires and excites.
Their style has remained through many personnel changes over
the years and pleases dancers as much today as it did over
the decades.
The musicians that make up the Tulla Céilí
Band today include Mike McKee and Sean Donnelly on box, Mike
Murphy and Mark Donnellan on fiddles, JJ Conway and Jennifer
Lenihan on flutes, Jim Corry on piano and Michael Flanagan
on drums. Martin Hayes also plays with them when hes
home from Seattle.
The Tulla Céilí Band has received every possible
award over its 55 years and its visit to Galway promises to
be a very special night for dancers and lovers of great traditional
music.
